Program Description
- Ten 2½ hour sessions which meet one day a week for 10 consecutive weeks.
- Parents and children (ages 5-11) meet in separate groups.
- Each weekly session closes with a family activity.
- Childcare is provided.
- Participants may receive a Certificate of Completion after attending at least 8 classes; Perfect Attendance Certificates will be awarded for participants attending all 10 classes.
Goals of Nurturing Program
- Develop positive self-concept/self-esteem in all family members
- Build awareness of the needs of others
- Teach alternatives to hitting and yelling
- Increase awareness of self-needs, strengths, and weaknesses
- Increase family communication and expressiveness
- Increase awareness of the needs of family members
- Develop and increase nurturing parenting behaviors
- Promote healthy physical/emotional development of self and others
- Build family support and closeness
- Learn to have fun as a family

- From Hwy 31N/ Hwy 280W:
Take Highland Ave./Arlington Ave. exit. Turn right on Highland Avenue South. Take immediate
left on 23rd Street South. House is on the corner at the stop sign.
- From I-20E/I-59N:
Merge onto Hwy 31S/Hwy 280E. Take the University Blvd. Exit. Turn right on University Blvd. Make a left at 23rd Street South.
House is on the left at the stop sign.
- From I-65N:
Take the University Blvd. Exit. Merge onto University Blvd. Make a right at 23rd Street South. House is on the left at the stop sign.
- From I-65S:
Take the 4th Ave. South exit (UAB exit) which exits to the right and circles back under the interstate. Keep going east until you get to 18th Street, turn right on 18th Street. Go to University Blvd. (8th Ave. South) and turn left. Take a right onto 23rd Street South. House in on the left at the stop sign.
